The Night Circus Review
Title: The Night Circus
Author: Erin Morgenstern
Page Count: 387
Chapter Count: I'm not really sure. Around 70 plus maybe. There are 4 main parts to the story.
Format: Hardback, old library book
Genres: Fantasy
Setting: Changes between towns and the circus. Set in the late 1800s and early 1900s
Published: 2011
Publisher: Doubleday, a division of Random House
ISBN: 978-0-385-53463-5
Summary:
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it, no paper notices plastered on lampposts and billboards. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not.
Within these nocturnal black-and-white-striped tents awaits an utterly unique experience, a feast for the senses, where one can get lost in a maze of clouds, meander through a lush garden made of ice, stare in wonderment as the tattooed contortionist fold herself into a small glass box, and become deliciously tipsy from the scents of caramel and cinnamon that waft through the air.
Welcome to Le Cirque Des Reves.
Beyond the smoke and mirrors, however a fierce is underway---- a contest between two young illusionist, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood to compete in a "game" to which they have been irrevocably bound by their mercurial masters. Unbeknownst to the players, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will.
As the circus travels around the world, the feasts of magic gain fantastical new heights with every stop. The game is well under way and the lives of all those involved---the eccentric circus owner, the elusive contortionist, the mystical fortune-teller, and a pair of red-headed twins born backstage among them---are swept up in a wake of spells and charms.
But when Celia discovers that Marco is her adversary, they begin to think of the game not as a competition but as a wonderful collaboration. With no knowledge of how the game must end, they innocently tumble head first into love. A deep, passionate and magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.
Their masters will pull the strings, however, and this unforeseen occurrence forces them to intervene with dangerous consequences leaving the lives of everyone from the performers to the patrons hanging in the balance.
Both playful and seductive, The Night Circus, Erin Morgenstern's spell-casting debut, is a mesmerizing love story for the ages.
Disclaimer:
Let me say first you all can feel free to disagree with me. It won't hurt my feelings a bit. Secondly, I want to apologize from the bottom of my heart for not having written anything in awhile. I will try my best to update with something at least every other week if I can't do every week. We recently found out that we are expecting a baby boy in June, so things may get a little more difficult and hectic from here on out. If I don't update like I should I am so so so sorry.
Review Time:
I couldn't finish this book at all. It was way too wordy for me to even try to attempt to finish it. It also gave me a fairly nice headache everytime I tried to read more on it, and i'm not sure if it was just the way it was written, with the story jumping all around all the time, or if it was just the print of the book. Now please don't get me wrong, I did try my best to finish reading the book, and one day I may go back and try to read the book again and redo this review. As for now, I just couldn't finish the book, no matter what I tried I couldn't get passed page 100 something. I'm sure if I was able to finish the book, it would have been an ok read. Probably not in my favorites list, but it would have been an ok book. Sadly though I had to DNF this book somewhere in the middle of the book. It was just way too slow and wordy for me. It seemed almost like word vomit that jumped all around the place and was in novel form. If you like to read the book then by all means please do, but it just wasn't my cup of tea. I would suggest though if you aren't sure if your going to like it then borrow from a friend or the library. If you absolutely have to buy I would check thrift shops first so you aren't out a ton of money if you don't like the book. These are my thoughts and mine alone. I admit I would have probably liked the book a whole lot more if there had been any form of a love story too it. I know its supposed to be about magic and love but I couldn't find that with all the other words clogging up the story.
Rating:
I can't give this book a fair rating because I never finished it. With that being the case I am giving it a 0 because I DNF'd the book. I will let you guys make up your own mind about it though.
